| How the need was identified |
- As a result of a research project the previous year
looking at underachievement by children of
separated families.
|
| Aims of the project |
- To encourage groups of parents to become more
involved in the life of the school by providing
opportunities for them to learn together.
|
| How the project operates |
- Ten sessions to
help parents understand the
learning process and the part they play using the
toolkit 'Helping your child to succeed' by Alistair
Smith and Bill Lucas.
- Parents evaluation of the above adapted where
required, for use with other groups of parents.
- Events to encourage parents, particularly fathers, to
enjoy learning with their child. Events include linking
up with the University Science Week, New Learning
Bus, Recycling bus etc.
|
| How is the programme innovative |
- The programme emphasised the 'enjoyment' aspect
of learning and particularly topics that encouraged
fathers to join in.
