| How the need was identified |
Through consultation
with parents and ongoing
work with pupils. |
| Aims of the project |
- To facilitate a group of year 9 pupils to create a
wildlife garden which they would own. Parents,
particularly those hard to reach ones, and of
children with SEN, would be approached and
involved using the knowledge that they have i.e.
building, landscaping, planting skills etc.
|
| How the project operates |
- Area for garden identified
- Students designed garden
- Parents contacted and involved
- Garden design amended in line with parental input
- Initial weekend 'dig' with parents and students
- Landscaping and planting
- Creation of a visual journal using parental skills
- Project links made with curriculum subjects i.e.
Science, D & T, Maths, Geography and English
- Pupils self esteem and confidence increases
throughout the project as they watch their plans
take shape and come to fruition.
|
| How is the programme innovative |
- The programme created the opportunity for those
'hard-to-reach' parents to offer their skills, alongside
students, in a non-threatening environment. The end
result will serve to enhance the school environment
and provide a useful and attractive educational
resource.
