How the need was identified The need was identified in the School Development Plan and became particularly pertinent when the school relocated and the need for parents to become familiar with the resulting changes increased.
Aims of the project
  • To involve parents in a greater extent in their child's learning.
    Two specific target groups were:
    1. 'hard to reach' parents and carers
    2. parents and carers with learning difficulties.
How the project operates
  • Increased parental involvement with curriculum meetings.
  • A range of social events to allow parents to talk to staff and governors in a less formal and threatening forum.
  • Information sessions for parents on topics such as careers, behaviour management and drugs. Transport for parents to attend social events, meetings, annual reviews etc.
  • Provision of administration time to contact parents about events and subsequently remind them prior to the event.
How is the programme innovative
  • To facilitate parents access to the school such as coffee mornings, talks, social functions (use of minibus and/or taxi).
  • This project has helped to build bridges between home and school.
