| How the need was identified |
A parenting questionnaire
was issued and the
resulting feedback identified that not enough
importance was given to play as a part of their
child's learning. |
| Aims of the project |
- To raise awareness in parents of minority ethnic
groups of the importance of play and how these
skills are important for fostering positive interaction
with children i.e. reducing behaviour problems,
building good self-concept and encouraging social,
emotional and cognitive growth.
|
| How the project operates |
- The target group was Mirpuri Pakistani and
Bangladeshi Parents.
- Working with Lynda Balding from CAMH and
Debbie Marshall a health visitor twelve 2 hour
sessions were planned covering areas including:
how to play with your child,
praise and reward. and
helping children learn.
- Provision was made for:
interpreters, crèche, transport.
|
| How is the programme innovative |
- This project took the main principles of the Webster
Stratton Parenting programme and modified them
to take on board cultural sensitivies.
- Programme was aimed at Pakistani mothers.
- All material was translated, each session was
interpreted by the community link worker.
