| How the need was identified |
Part of the school
development plan and self-evaluation
process was to develop early SEN
identification process with appropriate intervention
strategies. One aspect of this process was to
identify children with reading difficulties. |
| Aims of the project |
- To train a bank of parents to work with the school to
support children with reading difficulties and deliver
a developed programme to support inclusion
across the school.
|
| How the project operates |
- A project working party was formed, including
interested staff (Teachers & TAs) and governors
- Parents expressed an interest in taking part at a
'Reading Launch' evening.
- Parents who already help in school were recruited.
- Governors who had already indicated an interest
were recruited.
- With interested parents preliminary sessions were
held to:
i) give guidance for listening to children read in
general
ii) explaining the 'Catch Up' programme.
- Availability of parents was determined.
- Demonstration/training sessions were held with
parents & children to 'sample / model' reading
sessions.
- Training was provided by CAISTS, Family Learning
Service and a key teacher.
|
| How is the programme innovative |
- To establish a resource bank of 'trained parents'
who could actively support children with reading
difficulties.
