| How the need was identified |
The immediate community
around the school is
culturally diverse. The school positively values the
community mix and wishes to promote, develop
and foster a sense of inclusive attitudes within the
school. |
| Aims of the project |
- To establish a linguistically diverse group of parents
to share their cultural stories.
- Group to be established once per month (fortnight).
- Parents tell
stories to each other.
- Record stories on CD
- Use stories in school to promote Literacy for
All.
|
| How the project operates |
- The Cambridgeshire Race Equality and Diversity
Service Teacher offers a morning session for
parents from Korean and Chinese backgrounds to
share stories from their cultures and translate them
into English. These stories are written, illustrated
and recorded onto a CD that will be distributed to
families. Parents who have been part of the pilot
project will approach other schools in the area.
|
| How is the programme innovative |
- Dissemination of cultural material from an individual
to many families. Stories will be used to promote
'Literacy for All'.
