  • Negotiated with individual schools.
  • Priority in School Development Plans.
  • Identified needs according to intake of pupils.
Aims of the project
  • To familiarise parents with the experiences children go through when learning to read.
  • To develop effective listening skills and to learn strategies to support children in a positive and effective manner.
How the project operates
  • Each school agrees on the focus group.
  • Timeframes for support and expected outcomes are identified.
  • Some schools self manage after initial introduction of the project.
How is the programme innovative
  • It focuses on holistic support for the development of reading and in some cases can give greater access to children who would otherwise experience difficulties.
  • Develops confidence and strategic skills of parents.
