| How the need was identified |
- The school has an increasing intake of pupils with
severe and complex needs.
- There are no special schools in the area to offer
easy access to outreach support.
|
| Aims of the project |
- To build on current policy to support all parents.
- To expand our range of parent partnership
opportunities.
- To provide support and advice to parents of pupils
with special educational needs.
- To help parents to cope with managing
the
individual needs of children who have a range of
difficulties within the home setting.
- To develop an on-going support
group for parents
of children with special needs.
|
| How the project operates |
- The project operates a series of 6x2 hour sessions
delivering training to parents in response to needs
expressed for support in managing their child's
behaviour at home.
|
| How is the programme innovative |
- It focuses on supporting parents of pupils with
special educational needs who increasingly turn to
school staff and partner agencies (eg school nurse/
doctor) for support managing behavioural issues
within the home. The sessions focus on
management of behaviour. Parents confident with
managing behaviour at home will have an effect on
managing behaviour at school.
