How the need was identified National Statistics showing underachievement of Looked After children, particularly in Literacy.
Aims of the project
  • To give carers the confidence, knowledge and resources to enjoy books with the children they care for.
How the project operates
  • Carers of primary aged children are invited to attend five two hour sessions consisting of four teaching sessions and one library visit.
  • The course can be adapted to include individual requirements.
  • Evaluation by participants and deliverers.
How is the programme innovative
  • A joint venture between Education, Social Services
    and Libraries.
  • Carers are remunerated for attendance.
  • Carers have access to support and resources after the course.
