About the evaluation

An independent consultant was appointed to conduct the overall evaluation. She collected evidence about each project, evaluated the findings and wrote the report. The aim of the evaluation was to see how successful each establishment had been in developing its project, meeting the project’s aims and fulfilling the chosen ‘golden rule’.

The process was as follows:

  • development plans for each project were read and analysed according to the project criteria
  • each project leader was sent an evaluation questionnaire
  • contact was made with a sample of participants, including school personnel, parents and pupils, prior to the return of the evaluations
  • the completed evaluation questionnaires were scrutinised and project leaders took part in a telephone interview.
